Description
This portrait of Mary Vere (née Vesey) was painted about a decade after she married her second husband, John Vere (see 2006.005). She wears a white silk robe, a delicate gauze fichu across her chest, blue girandole earrings, matching neck ribbon, and a pompon of silk flowers in her fashionably combed hair.
Credit Line
Accepted by HM Government in Lieu of Ineritance Tax and allocated to Gainsborough's House, 2006.
