Description
Tobias Rustat was educated in Saffron Walden and Bury St. Edmunds before he went to Jesus College, Cambridge, in 1734. Following his ordination, he became Rector at Fordham in Cambridgeshire and was later Rector to the parish of Stutton, near Ipswich, for more than forty years. He and his wife Sarah, an heiress from Devon, sat for Gainsborough in the 1750s when the artist lived in Ipswich and painted several clergy families.
